The Rotherham Action Group are members of the local community who are strongly against plans to build on green belt land throughout the borough.
In Greasbrough/Rawmarsh they plan to build 3600 new homes on green belt land, its called the Bassingthorpe Farm Development, the size of about 500 football pitches.
This is also happening in Anston,Bramley,Dinnington,Ravenfield 1200 houses, Wickersley.
This is all part of the Core Strategy, you may have heard of this. Basically every council by law has to create a Core Strategy, this outlines the amount of houses the council are willing/wanting to build and avaliable areas for development in the perticular area. Plans are formed and the wheels start to turn. In Rotherham we have just finished stage 1, the consultation period where the local people can offer an opinion about the size and placement of the proposed development. The process lasts some 18 months before finally going to government level for approval.

Objections

Due to the lack of job opportunities we feel the volume of housing is not required as people have no reason to move into the area

Some of the proposed area is in the fallout zone of a local Chemical Plant, which could potentially hurt hundreds of people.

The road network is already at breaking point more cars will only add to the current problems

The destruction of Village Green space and habitat of wildlife some rare orchids are on the proposed land

Local infrastructure can not cope with this massive increase in population, new schools,doctors library would be needed
We need people from all diffent walks of life, that are
wanting to help the group go forward to the next level.The battle has just
started and we need committed people who are ready to keep fighting.
